Lycopene is the red colour pigment in vegetables and fruits. It gives tomato its red colour and watermelons flesh its reddish hue. Lycopene is a powerful plant based antioxidant, carotenoid and is linked to several health benefits and illness prevention. Studies on free radicals have also indicated that lycopene is 2 times more potent antioxidant than beta-carotene and 100 times more potent than vitamin E.
